Parsa, March 22 — The Chaiti Chhath festival, a significant Hindu tradition symbolizing faith and spiritual philosophy, has begun today.
Celebrated in the month of Chaitra, the festival marks the beginning of creation, new energy, and renewed commitment. Astrologer Pandit Rajnath Jha informed that the festival started on March 22 with the ritual ‘Nahay-Khay’.
According to Vedic traditions, the Sun is considered the center of creation, and offering prayers to the setting and rising sun is an ancient practice. Goddess Shashthi is worshipped for the well-being, prosperity, and protection of children.
The festival is observed with great devotion, especially in the Madhesh and Terai regions.
On the first day, devotees take a holy bath and offer prayers, consuming simple food. The second day, known as ‘Kharna’, involves fasting followed by evening prayers and consumption of kheer made of jaggery, milk, and rice. This is followed by a 36-hour waterless fast.
On the third day, devotees offer prayers to the setting sun, and on the final day, they worship the rising sun, concluding the ritual.
