Mumbai, March 21 — Bollywood dancer and actress Nora Fatehi has landed in major controversy over the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” from her upcoming film KD: The Devil.
The song has sparked widespread criticism in India over allegations of obscenity. Amid the backlash, the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, issued a fatwa against Nora, calling the song anti-Islamic and harmful to society.
In the fatwa issued by Chief Mufti Maulana Chaudhary Ibrahim Hussain, it was stated that Islam promotes modesty and moral conduct, and participation in such vulgar songs and visuals is considered sinful and forbidden.
The organization has urged the government to take strict action against those involved and appealed to the public to boycott such content.
Responding to the controversy, Nora Fatehi said on social media that she was unaware of the alleged vulgar Hindi version. She claimed the song was originally shot in Kannada three years ago and contained no objectionable content at the time.
She also made serious allegations that some scenes in the video were altered using AI technology.
The issue has reached the Indian Parliament, where Samajwadi Party leader Anand Bhadauria raised concerns over the song’s content. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw responded that the government is committed to protecting society and children, confirming that the song has been banned and removed from YouTube.
Meanwhile, after action by the National Commission for Women, the National Human Rights Commission has also sought clarification from the censor board, Google India, and the IT Ministry.
