FNJ Parsa Objects to Locking of Branch Office

Federation says activities of ‘Membership Purification Struggle Committee’ harmed institutional dignity

2026 May 29, Friday 19:42

The Federation of Nepali Journalists Parsa branch has expressed serious objection to the locking of its branch office. In a press statement issued on Friday and signed by secretary Vijay Mahato, the branch stated that the activities carried out in the name of the “Membership Purification Struggle Committee” have directly harmed the dignity of the institution, the unity of journalists, and the reputation of journalism in Parsa.

The statement mentioned that the FNJ Parsa branch is not an institution belonging to any individual or group but a common organization for all media professionals. It described the act of locking the office on a public holiday without any formal notice as unfortunate, objectionable, and irresponsible.

The federation clarified that it remains fully committed to the issue of membership purification, but stressed that the process must move forward based on institutional procedures, statutes, previous decisions, and agreements — not through personal pressure, demands, or emotions.

According to the statement, the branch leadership had formally written to former chairperson Anup Tiwari on Jestha 7, 2083 BS, requesting him to submit decision books, membership records, and financial accounts within three days. However, instead of providing the required documents, the office was locked under his leadership, raising serious questions about intent, the federation claimed.

The branch further stated that the current memberships were approved during the tenure of the previous leadership and that a new leadership has already been elected through the voting rights of those same members. In such a situation, failure to hand over decision books, financial details, and institutional records has been termed highly concerning.

The statement also noted that preparations for the general assembly were underway, making activities aimed at disrupting the process even more suspicious.

According to the federation, failure to hand over decision books on the day of leadership transfer, repeated disregard of requests, non-implementation of decisions to submit financial accounts within 30 days, and attempts to obstruct meetings appear to be deliberate efforts to push the institution toward confusion and instability.

The federation has once again urged the concerned side to immediately hand over all institutional records, including decision books and financial accounts, assist in the membership purification process, and remove the lock placed on the branch office without delay.

The branch also warned that although it remains committed to dialogue, cooperation, and institutional welfare, it may be forced to pursue legal remedies if attacks on the institution’s dignity, journalists’ collective reputation, and legal rights continue.
