Kathmandu, March 21 — Heavy rain accompanied by storms, lightning, and hail affected various parts of Nepal from Friday afternoon.
Bagmati and Lumbini provinces experienced severe windstorms, causing unusually dark conditions during the daytime, while snowfall was reported in western Himalayan regions.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Makwanpurgadhi recorded the highest rainfall of 46.4 mm within six hours. In Babarmahal, 20.4 mm of rain was recorded within just one hour.
Significant rainfall was also measured in several other locations.
Senior meteorologist Barun Paudel stated that the weather was caused by a low-pressure system in the western winds combined with local atmospheric conditions.
He added that rainfall is likely to continue in central and eastern Nepal today.
