Press Centre Nepal Parsa presented the Krishna Sen Ichchhuk Memorial Award and the Active Journalism Award during a special ceremony held on Saturday.

This year’s Krishna Sen Ichchhuk Memorial Award was presented to Niraj Pithakote, while the Active Journalism Award was awarded to Baliram Yadav. The award recipients were honored by chief guest Kamal Giri with a cash prize of NPR 21,000 each, along with a certificate of honor and a traditional shawl.

Addressing the event, KC Lamichhane recalled the significant contribution of late Krishna Sen Ichchhuk to democracy, press freedom, and citizens’ rights through fearless and dedicated journalism.

He noted that the Nepali journalism community would never forget Ichchhuk, who sacrificed his life for democracy and civil rights. Lamichhane also highlighted his contributions to literature and poetry, saying his writings promoted patriotism, social justice, and social transformation.

Speakers at the event emphasized the important role of journalists in the development of journalism, protection of press freedom, and fulfillment of social responsibility. They also alleged that attempts were being made to silence media voices through economic pressure on journalists and media institutions, stating that any interference with press freedom would be unacceptable.

The event was attended by several media leaders and representatives of various organizations, including community radio officials, journalist associations, and press organizations. The program was chaired by Shivnath Yadav and hosted by secretary Ajit Bhujel.
